My current sculptural jewelry work explores the concept of memories and the methods our brains use to store them. Born out of the heartbreak of watching a family member with Alzheimer’s, my work reflects on the delicate synapses inside our brains holding together everything we are, past and present. Using primarily silver wire, I cut, form, and build structures held together with many small connections. As a result, each piece recalls the preciousness and ethereality of a cherished memory. I create artwork that is meant to be worn because it’s interaction with the body is an integral component. Jewelry has the power of becoming an extension of the wearer. It is a method of self-expression and deeply personal. Thus, making jewelry an ideal avenue to convey the body’s intimacy with every little synapse, connection, and memory in our brains.
