Metalsmithing Foundation: Level One
Five Session Class
Class meets five Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:30pm.
Enrollment is currently open for:
WINTER session: January 8 - February 5 - SOLD OUT
SPRING session: April 1 - April 29 - Six Seats Available
Prerequisite: No experience needed.
This course is designed to give students a foundational understanding of basic metalsmithing skills and will serve as a prerequisite for Level Two classes and open studio sessions offered at our studio.
Students will create a riveted silhouette pendant/keychain from copper or brass and two sterling rings.
Students will leave class with finished pieces and samples. If time allows, students will be able to work on additional projects using the techniques they've learned.
Students will learn to use a jewelers saw, hand files, texturing with hammers, cold connections using rivets, forming tools, metal stamping, bench tools and more. Students will get an introduction to using flex shaft tools and basic silver torch soldering. We will discuss safe practices for working in the studio and can advise on setting up a studio at home.
Please note that we are not able to provide make up classes and most demos will not be repeated, so attendance to all five classes is highly encouraged.
